The Whitewater River

{short description of image} Flowing through the glacial hills of southeastern Indiana, the Whitewater River gently winds through the scenic Hoosier farmland. The Whitewater River Valley is teeming with wildlife, natural beauty and historic landmarks and should floating along this unpolluted stream appeal to you and your group contact Whitewater Canoe Rental for further detail and schedules.

When planning a river trip, take ample time prior to the trip to become familiar with basic water safety. Know your abilities, know the river's demands and know the dangers to avoid. At times the Whitewater River flows gently through shallow pools; at other times the river rushes through deep channels with very swift currents. Obstacles in these currents, such as fallen trees, limbs, bridge piers, etc. can be extremely hazardous, and must be avoided. DO NOT TAKE CHANCES, always wear life vests and if necessary, wade or portage to avoid river obstacles.

PRIVATE PROPERTY

The Whitewater River in the most popular canoeing areas (Franklin and Fayette counties) is unique in that the river usage is controlled by private landowners  that hold titles to the lands along and under the stream. The beaches, the sandbars, the gravel islands, and even airspace above the surface of the river are under the control of each river landowner. It is imperative for anyone planning to float through this private farmland to understand this fact and abide by all landowner regulations (see river regulations). All river trips on the private section of the Whitewater River must be prearranged and everyone must use the river entirely at their own risk - NO EXCEPTIONS! Contact us for more details.

Regardless of your needs, our staff will gladly assist you with planning for group trips, camping, group picnics, etc. Whitewater Canoe Rental is able to handle any size group. Call us at (765) 647-5434 or 1-800-634-4277.
